The European Union, Mexico, Canada, Brazil and South Korea are spared - for now - punitive steel and aluminum taxes; it is China that is targeted, as it was committed during the election campaign. The Japanese ally is not exempt automatically and will have to negotiate. Import taxes in the United States will be applied on Chinese products totaling 60 billion dollars (nearly 50 billion euros) in ten sectors considered strategic by Beijing, including high technology , aeronautics and electric vehicles. Washington will present within two weeks a list of specific products subject to a 25% increase in import duties.
